Ontario Place Goes Green
Here at Ontario Place, we are making the park even more beautiful and eco-friendly in 2011 by going Zero Waste, pesticide free and by planting thousands of new flowers and plants.
Did you know that...
- Ontario Place diverted 63 tonnes of waste from landfills in 2010 and our goal for 2011 is 250 tonnes.
- Our guests help us achieve Zero Waste by using the:
- TOMRA “reverse vending machines”.
- New colourful garbage bins that separate recyclables, garbage and compostable materials.
- The Eco-Learning Centre is Ontario Place’s new, fun and free attraction. It is the only place in the city where you can get up-close-and-personal with live turtles and endangered reptiles, while also learning responsible pet care and tending to baby squirrels!
- The new Eco-Learning Centre is located in Marina Square and features exhibits from several environmental leaders such as:
- The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority
- Parks Canada
- Royal Ontario Museum
- Toronto Humane Society
- Toronto Wildlife Center
- World Wildlife Fund
- Earth Rangers
- The Ministry of Natural Resources
- Ontario Place is naturalizing over 35,000 square feet of garden space with a variety of beneficial beautiful perennials.
- Ontario Place is improving the natural flow of water through the park.
- The Ontario Place Marina received the highest rating possible in the Clean Marine eco-certification program.
